The European commissioner for energy, Kadri Simson, on Tuesday 20 April underlined the importance of the ‘Renovation Wave’ strategy in combating energy poverty in the European Union, saying that sustainable, energy-efficient buildings should be “the new normal”.
‘Sustainable Energy Skills in the construction sector’ is a series of webinars devoted to energy efficiency area from different perspectives. It is organized jointly by 7 EU founded projects: BIMEET, BUSLeague, INSTRUCT, HP4ALL, The nZEB Roadshow, CraftEdu and TRAIN4SUSTAIN. The collaboration was established to raise awarness about a deep need for sustainable energy skills in the construction sector. The webinar is an opportunity to share their knowledge, experiences and research outcomes with the audience from European countries.

eu.bac welcomes the 2021 revision of the Energy Performance of Buildings Directive, which has become necessary in light of the increased ambition agreed in the Renovation Wave. To meet EU climate targets and fully decarbonise the building stock by 2050, stronger measures must be put in place at the European level.
In this paper, we provide our initial suggestions. We have structured our suggestions in 6 chapters, each containing specific policy recommendations:
The Framework for carbon neutral buildings and sites of the DGNB makes a significant contribution to making the decarbonisation of the building stock practically feasible by 2050. The current version of August 2020 is based on an initial version published in 2018. Its methodology has been evaluated in numerous projects. This version in english serves as a basis for an international application.
What is the framework?
The building sector accounts for a significant percentage of total global energy-related CO2 emissions. Competitive solutions must therefore be found in the building sector to revolutionise energy efficiency and management in buildings. The Horizon 2020 project 'MATRYCS', applies and tests big data approaches for use in building management and policy.
This Analytical Report is part of the European Construction Sector Observatory (ECSO) project. It aims to describe the state of play of digitalisation in the EU construction sector and identify some of its main drivers and challenges. In doing so, the report provides information, evidence and lessons learnt aiming to supporta wide range of stakeholders, including policymakers, who wish to support the integration of digital technologies in the construction sector.
State of play, digitalisation in construction: The EU construction sector is making progress in the uptake of digital technologies. The integration of digital technologies is often viewed as a key element to tackle some of the main challenges it is faced with, such as labour shortage, competitiveness, resource and energy efficiency, and productivity. In fact, the digitalisation of the construction sector is particularly important in times when the construction sector faces labour shortages and a profitability margin squeeze.
The EEW4 survey objectives and approach: Over the last 15 years, the importance of energy efficiency in European policy has steadily increased. The adoption of the "Energy Efficiency First" principle and the Green Deal brought a new policy era, also for energy efficiency. Since 2006, Energy Efficiency Watch (EEW) projectshave accompanied thispolicy development and implementation process.
